Event Details

2 Beginner Courses, a White Beginners 1 Mile and also a 2 mile Yellow beginners Hike. HVO map Trainers will be present, there are NO advanced Courses.  

​

Map is a revised 1:5000 scale newly revised by master map maker Paul Bennett. Map will have veg and rootstock revisions and is to be first used on Oct 13th.  3 meter contours.  Map is a mixed use 60 acre park with forest and open space and a small lake and gentle hillside. Picnic tables available.

Registration

Please pre-register before October 10.

 

You must be either a Girl Scout USA or a Boy Scout to register.

 

Buddy system groups of 2/3 scouts. Don't have a Scout Buddy?, contact the registrar with your name, Unit # and town info and we can match you up with other area solo scouts.

Maps will be in limited numbers, but will be reserved for your scouts IF you email the registrar of this event (rrycharski345  at sign optonline.net) before 10 October with estimated number of Scouts to attend the training (walk on's risk limited spare maps).

Equipment needed: Scout handbook and a Baseplate Compass.

Volunteers

​

Any HVO members in the Bergen County Area are encouraged to help staff the event as Start and Finish Line officials, (pay it Forward), and volunteers will be able to Hike either of the Two beginner O courses after helping out as incentive. Simple tasks.

Directions

​

From NJ Rte 17:  At the Allendale Ave interchange, take the Allendale Exit onto Allendale Ave west; continue to and thru the Allendale business district, where the road curves sharply right and becomes Myrtle Ave;  at the traffic signal, turn left onto Crescent Ave;  after the railroad underpass, go about 0.1 mi and turn right into Crestwood Park at Klomburg Ave;  park in the first lot on the right.

From I-287:  Take exit 59 onto NJ Rte 208 south;  continue about 1.3 mi to the Summit Ave / Franklin Lakes exit;  make 2 left turns onto Summit Ave north;  at the signal, continue straight onto Old Mill Rd;  continue to and around a sharp left curve, then make the next right onto Woodside Ave;  continue about a mile to the end, and turn right onto Pulis Ave;  at the next signal, continue straight onto Forest Rd;  continue about 1.5 miles to the next signal and turn right onto Hillside Ave;  continue to the next signal and turn left onto Crescent Ave;  go about 0.1 mi, and turn left into Crestwood Park at Klomburg Ave;  park in the first lot on the right.
